Kim Ju-hee, The International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) junior flyweight champion, won her first title defense over Madyda Kidsolon of the Philippines with a second-round knockout in Seoul’s Changchung Gymnasium on Friday. Kim, the youngest IFBA champion, pushed her opponent furiously until Kidsolon fell down on the canvas 43 seconds into the second round for the third knockout win in her career. Kim now records eight wins, one loss and two draws.
It was an unexpected event for the 19-year-old South Korean since she was supposed to take on former IFBA flyweight champion Maribel Zurita of the United States, who had to cancel the scheduled bout due to an injury during training. However, it didn’t bother Kim, who has been training 10 hours a day since taking the title in December.
The challenger was aggressive from the beginning with no pause, only to receive effective jabs and straights targeted to her face from the champion.
In the second round, Kim was much more active in exchanging punches as if she had decided to go for a head-on clash. And it didn’t take too long before she blasted a magnificent combination of two left straights, right uppercut and a bout-finishing one-two punch to Kidsolon¡¯s face, forcing the Filipina to stumble toward the canvas.
``I was preparing for Zurita, so actually I knew little about the challenger, Kim said after the bout. ``But I had confidence since I’ve been practicing hard.
“I expected this would be a hard-punching bout, but she came hard so soon so I fought back right away”, Kim said.
