Gi Young Kim Retains Super Flyweight Crown

In Heongseong, Kangwon-Do, outside of Seoul, South Korea, Gi Young Kim (52.16kg) defended her 115 pd Super Flyweight IFBA World Title against Soo Young Oh (52.00kg) also of South Korea.

Apparently receiving a broken rib in one of the early rounds, Gi Young Kim clearly favored and protected her right side throughout the bout.  She was however determined to fight through and the bout was a more spirited match than anticipated.  Gi Young was able to stay ahead of Soo Young on the scorecards until the 8th round, when Soo Young overcame her opponent and won over the judges for the last three rounds. As soon as the final bell rang, Gi Young collapsed on the ring mat and moaned at the conclusion of the grueling bout. The title defense was declared a draw and Gi Young Kim retains her crown.

Judge Kim, Jae-Bong (96-95), Judge Lee, Dong-Ok (96-96) and Judge Kim, Kwang-Ki (96-96). Former IFBA champion Kim Messer supervised the championship bout promoted by Woon Chul Shin.
